Grand Master Chun Suk Suh

G.M. Suh has been involved in Taekwondo for most of his life, starting training as a child in Korea and has dedicated his time to promoting and teaching the Art.

In 1973 he came to Australia to teach Taekwondo, having taught in various countries across several continents.

In his time teaching here, he has instructed over 600 students to their Black Belt and he continues to teach all aspects of Taekwondo, ranging from the Traditional Art to the modern day Olympic Style Sport.

Currently he teaches over 25 classes at numerous locations and schools throughout Sydney’s northern beaches and the North Shore.

He has lead various initiatives furthering the opportunities for our Athletes by taking Teams to compete in the Korean Open for over eight years, where they have been very successful, returning on every occasion with a number of medals and awards and he is currently working on setting up opportunities for students to train and compete in other countries, such as Singapore and China.

On the local front, G.M. Suh has hosted numerous tournaments where players from all around Australia and many overseas countries have participated and such have led to reciprocal invites for his Australian based players to venues such as New Caledonia and New Zealand.

He has on several occasions brought, from Korea, Demonstration Teams along with Grand Master Hae Man Park, the WTF Technical Advisor. G.M. Park has conducted Seminars here, at G.M. Suh’s instigation and a number of G.M. Suh’s Senior Instructors have taken the opportunity to host G.M. Park’s Assistant Instructors and gain from their expertise.

G.M. Suh has close ties and associations with Kukkiwon and WTF and has been an Executive Member of the Organising Committee for the World Taekwondo Festival since its inception eight years ago and it is through connections such as this that he has been able to arrange special training Seminars for the Australian visiting Teams, at Kukkiwon.

He has also organised numerous Teams to compete internationally in the U.K., Spain, Italy, U.S.A., New Caledonia and Singapore and has been part of the leadership group who took the National Junior Team to the Asian Junior Taekwondo Championships held at Almaty, Kazakhstan and more recently to the Japan Open and the 8th World Taekwondo Festival in Korea, where the Australian Team finished 2nd overall.

He has been actively developing and promoting Taekwondo throughout the South Pacific Region and fostering players from these countries to come to Australia to learn and train here.

As an observation I would say that, next to Family, Taekwondo is his life – he is always thinking and promoting Taekwondo.
